Maria Y. is a young girl from Loma Linda, Guatemala. At home, she lives with her sister, two brothers, and mother. Her mom takes care of the household and children, and sadly, is a widow. Because of this, times have been very hard on their family.

Maria Y. is in her fourth year of primary school and is a good student. Maria Y.'s favorite color is pink (as you can see from her shirt!) and her favorite food is beans - a staple in Guatemala. In her free time, Maria Y. loves playing dolls. Though you wouldn't know it from her bright smile, Maria Y. suffers dental problems and oral health issues that require medical attention.
